NSW entrant and Bosnian refugee, 24-year-old Monika Radulovic, beat about 30 others to take out the title, in the fifth annual Miss Universe Australia pageant on Friday night in Melbourne.
Ms Radulovic will next represent Australia at the Miss Universe international final early next year.
Ms Schofield is believed to be the first ever representative of the ACT in the national competition, after only making it to the NSW state round last year.
Then aged 19, Miss Schofield placed eighth out of 30 finalists in the NSW state round in 2014, telling Fairfax Media a year ago the experience put her in good stead for this year.
"Now I'm more prepared for next year as I know what to expect. I really want to work on my overall confidence and fitness," she said.
On Friday, Ms Schofield was a good sport despite not making the top ten at the national competition.
"Not my year this time! But watch out..congrats too all the amazing ladies who competed," she said on her Instagram account.
But it is not all bad news for Ms Schofield, as a result of the competition she also secured a contract with Scoop Model Management in Sydney.
"It's very exciting, I want to set a good example for other girls out there that you can be fit and healthy...you don't have to be this skinny, skinny model," she told the Queanbeyan Age.
Ms Schofield graduated from Daramalan College in 2013 and now lives in Sydney, pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.
