Hidden gem? The manuscript collection at the National Library of Australia - I love it there. Quiet, respectful, and full of amazing items that open the mind and heart to new ideas from historical research and stories.
Weekend haunt? My partner, his son and I love spending Sundays at the Canberra Yacht Club. I sailed a lot as a kid with my folks living in Malawi, and we still sail on Sydney Harbour where my folks live. Getting under sail with a good wind is so enlivening and clears the head. Lack of wind and being becalmed - which can happen a lot on the lake - provides time to chat and for thoughts to run freely.
Place to take visitors? I love our national Institutions so it is always a trip to the National Film and Sound Archive for a tour around the building and to catch a film. From there onto the National Gallery of Australia to see the Ned Kelly Room and Blue Poles, both unique to the NGA. The National Portrait Gallery is another must and such a beautiful space filled with inspirational people.
People-watching spot? I love watching the world go by at my favourite cafe - Dobinsons on Bunda Street. Excellent service, great food and perfect avocado toast. I have lots of meetings there and love the vibe.
Place to unwind? My home in Watson, which is filled with memories of my travels and projects. It must look like a rather eclectic collection to visitors but for me each item holds a memory of time, place and people.
Treat? Which one? How to choose? Massage at Thai Bliss followed by dinner in Garema Place with my favourite dancing ladies (and glass or two of bubbles or a margarita!) We set the world to rights and are ready for the next day.
