A 23-year-old Canberra man was caught riding his motorbike more than 70km/h over the speed limit in the city's north on Friday night, police say.

ACT Policing said officers in an unmarked car spotted the Forde man on Flemington Road about 10.50pm. He was allegedly doing 140km/h in a 70km/h speed zone, and faces a $1831 fine and six demerit points.
Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Susan Ball said urged people to "think about road safety as their personal responsibility leading into the Christmas holidays".
