Back to school blues for Canberra families
Pupils and students across the ACT have returned to school but some families are doing it tougher than others.
Belconnen mother Sarah knows kids can be nasty and likes to ensure her five daughters head through the gates with clean uniforms and shiny shoes. But it doesn't come cheap.
Sarah's family is among about 1000 ACT households supported by The Smith Family.

Higher land tax for foreigners
The ACT government will increase the land tax for foreign investors in this year's budget.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr says the change will help "rebalance the housing market in favour of local buyers".
The ACT is one of only two jurisdictions that doesn't have a surcharge for foreign buyers.

Hall lease skyrockets by almost $17k
Previous tenants of Oaks Estate's hall leased the building for just 5c a year.
Now, the ACT government has told a group of residents they will need to pay more than $17,000 to lease the property.

Two deaths and a fall across NSW South Coast
Some sad news across the region.
A man has drowned after getting caught in a rip at a beach north of Batemans Bay on Sunday.
A woman also died after she was dragged down a hill by a motorhome and a car in Bega on the same day.
Meanwhile, another man was winched to safety after falling 20 metres down a rock ledge at a different beach, also near Batemans Bay.
