The Australian dance music artists have announced they'll front an expected 10,000-strong crowd to headline the third annual Googfest on Googong's Rockley Oval in February.

Lead singer Black Angus McDonald said Googfest organisers had approached him and his wife, Miss Connie Mitchell, in previous years but dates hadn't worked out.

"Most of these things depend on on scheduling and if we are available and if we're in that part of the world at that time," McDonald said.

"This time dates worked out and we thought 'Why not?' because these free community events can be a lot of fun."

Mitchell and McDonald have been nominated for 14 ARIAs, with two wins and three top-selling albums under their belts.

Their breakthrough 2006 single I Love It climbed to 24 on the ARIA Singles Chart and broke the record as the longest charting single at 73 weeks, while other popular hits include UFO, Pictures and I Ain't Over You.

Audiences can expect to hear these well-known songs, but McDonald said the rest of the performance was still "up in the air".

Whatever tunes they decide to belt, Mr Mcdonald was confident the atmosphere would not disappoint.

"We have a long history with Canberra, right back to playing at the first ever Foreshore [dance music festival in 2007]," he said.

"Like most places in Australia, Canberrans are just so up for it and have had a lot of love so we know the energy will be really positive."

The performance will follow a busy couple of years of international tours and the birth of their son Iggy Ajax McDonald in August.

More than 8,000 people flocked to last year's Googfest, which headlined Triple J unearthed winners and Canberra electronic band SAFIA.

And this year's show on February 4 is expected to be the biggest yet.

Other newly announced acts include 15-year-old national busking champion Lucy Sugerman, Canberra's alternative high school rock chicks Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, indie rockers Slow Turismo and psychedelic Indie rock band Young Monks.

Project director Malcolm Leslie said it was great to be able to give young bands a "leg-up".

"It's great to be able to provide experience and exposure for very young talent. Having a strong all-girls lineup is different this year too. Lucy and the girls in Teen Jesus are only 15, and still in high school, so they have a really bright future ahead of them," he said.

Food will be sold at the family-friendly event, which concludes with a firework show, but people are also welcome to feast on their own picnics.

Mr Leslie said there would be 20 food stalls with cuisine from all around the world.

"The whole community turns out to have a picnic, watch a stunning free show and enjoy the fireworks. Enjoying life with family and friends - it's what Googong is all about," Mr Leslie said.
