International flights mark a coming of age for Canberra

It was perhaps Canberra's worst-kept secret, but the huzzahs that greeted Singapore Airlines' announcement of a Singapore-Wellington service via Canberra four times weekly from September were nonetheless heart-felt. The loudest cheers came, understandably enough, from Chief Minister Andrew Barr and the Snow family, the airport's owners. They have invested heavily in turning it into a destination attractive to international airlines (with enthusiastic support and advocacy from the government), and both celebrated the first tangible return on investment with enthusiasm.
