We have lots of news to share with you, but before we get into that, there's a little thing called the weather forecast. There's a low of minus 1 degree predicted for today and a high of 12. It should be sunny, only a 10 per cent chance of rain. Oh, and it'll be frosty in the morning of course.
Here's what's making headlines today.
Attorney-General sends APS free speech case to High Court
Former Immigration Department official Michaela Banerji's sacking over her anonymous tweets will be at the centre of a High Court case that could test freedom of speech for workers in Australia.
Attorney-General Christian Porter has intervened in a federal government appeal against a decision finding she was unlawfully sacked, sending the case to the High Court.
The Australian Human Rights Commission is getting involved too, and intends to make submissions in the case about freedom of speech matters.
Smear campaign against Labor preselection candidate drags race to gutter
ACT Labor has committed to investigate whether its membership database has been used incorrectly after a dirt-sheet detailing personal allegations against preselection candidate Kel Watt was mailed to members' homes.
A single-page print-out, featuring a photo of the greyhound lobbyist and making a number of allegations against him, arrived in letterboxes on Tuesday.
Mr Watt, who is running for preselection in the seat of Canberra, would not comment on the allegations to Fairfax Media. It is understood ACT Policing has been contacted over the sending of the flyer.

Canberra Writers' Festival apologises for Barnaby Joyce Twitter feud
The Canberra Writers’ Festival board has apologised for sentiments expressed in a social media stoush over former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce's inclusion in its 2018 lineup.
Board member and author Steve Lewis engaged with fantasy author Russell Kirkpatrick over the weekend after The Canberra Times revealed that Joyce was just one of the authors featured in the 110 events to be held over August 23-26.
In a now deleted Twitter conversation Kirkpatrick criticised the festival for an under representation of women and the inclusion of Joyce. Lewis responded and things got heated with Lewis calling Kirkpatrick “pathetic” and a “dickhead”.

Canberra's newest public hospital has received its first patients.
About 44 were admitted to the University of Canberra Hospital on Tuesday during the first phase of transferring patients to the hospital from seven facilities across the city.
Construction began on the 140-bed rehabilitation facility, including 20 mental health beds, in 2016.
