The shop owner, working alongside two women, refused to let him in. He was then allegedly punched and had a gun pointed at him.
The trigger was pulled but the gun did not fire, and the shop owner wrestled the revolver from the man.
Police arrested the alleged offender at a home in Ulladulla about 2pm on Wednesday.
He was charged with a string of offences including attempting to discharge loaded arms at person with intent to murder and possessing a loaded firearm in a public place.
The incident was not believed to be an attempted robbery.
