As Amy Leake sits on her lounge each night, scrolling through the Instagram feed of 'Don't Tell Charles' for inspiration, chances are her arch-rival - Jade Sinkovits - is sitting just a few houses away, doing exactly the same thing.

Amy and Jade aren't ex-best friends or feuding work colleagues, they're the owners of two of Canberra's biggest and most successful dessert design businesses.
Yes, there's a real life Cake Wars happening locally but it's not playing out in the capital - it's taking place just across the border in the very new township of Googong, NSW.
Amy from Lulu and Sis lives on Bailey Crescent, Googong, while Jade, from Rosebery St Bakehouse, lives just houses away on the suburb's main drag, Beltana Avenue.
They're so close, if Jade tried, she could smell Amy baking Lulu and Sis's signature sticky date pudding flavoured cake on any given day of the week. With binoculars, Amy could spy on how Jade pipes the stunning manes of her trademark unicorn cookies.
Lulu and Sis is famous for stunning semi-naked cakes and watercolours, while Rosebery St Bakehouse is better known for cookies, including edible versions of a range of iconic Canberra locations like Telstra Tower and the War Memorial.
Amy and Jade both shop for sugar, flour, cream and other ingredients at Jerrabomberra Woolworths, including trying to contain their new outrage at the price of a block of butter. They both have brand new houses with huge kitchens, and discovered their proximity to each other when their children started attending the same boutique family day care in Googong.
But as much as they want to be fierce competitors, they're too busy to care.
Lulu and Sis is booked solid with cake orders until April of next year, while Rosebery St Bakehouse has a backlog of cookie orders for weeks.
"It's less Cake Wars and more Cake Referrals," Jade laughs.
"Is there room for two dessert designers in Canberra? Absolutely. And in the same suburb? I'd still say absolutely.
"It's more a mutual admiration society ... they'll put up a cake on Instagram and I'll be like oh my God look at those edges! You could cut yourself on those edges they're so sharp."
Amy: "And Jade will put up a photo of thousands of cookies and I'll be like, you poor thing! I know the pain you went through to make those and how long they took."
Jade, a federal public servant by day and currently on maternity leave, grew up in Jerrabomberra helping mum Molly bake birthday and special occasion cakes for family and friends. She launched Rosebery St Bakehouse two years ago with best friend Lisa Johnston.
Amy, who works on Lulu and Sis full-time with sister Kristin McInnes, "always loved being in the kitchen" of her Tuggeranong home and today spends most of her time close to her huge Westinghouse oven.
She has little time to watch Jade's favourite Netflix shows: Queer Eye and, of course, cake disaster series Nailed It!
"I love baking, it's just so therapeutic," Amy says.
"It's an art form. I get to be creative and I'm a perfectionist. It's not just a cake that goes out to a client, it's a little piece of me."
As they finish their photo shoot for The Canberra Times, Jade and Amy are discussing the challenges of being dessert queens; how to keep little fingers out of bowls, how to grow their Instagram followings and how every mother in Canberra is now screaming for cookies just like the ones Khloe Kardashian had designed for baby daughter, True Thompson.
"I think we should start a support group for cake makers in Canberra," Amy says.
"It'll only take us 20 seconds to get together."
