A day after Sydney took the stunning measure, Roos said the club had been left with no choice after Hall's attempted strike on Collingwood defender Shane Wakelin last Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.

Club psychologist Grant Brecht will decide when Hall plays again and the key forward has confessed he is ''shocked'' by the decision.

Asked whether he thought this was it for Hall's career, Roos replied yesterday, ''I don't know, that will be told in time.

''That's certainly not my view I don't think any of us have done this to suggest to Hally he won't play again. Quite the contrary.

''My concern would be him playing the next week and perhaps his career ending on a really, really bad note we don't want that to happen.

''We're actually trying to prolong his career by doing what we're doing now rather than put him in a position that, as I said, the experts are telling me that he just can't cope with.''

Earlier this season, Hall received a seven-week suspension for punching West Coast opponent Brent Staker and his latest on-field indiscretion earned him another one-week ban.

But the club's decision to stand him down is open-ended.

Roos has said Hall is continuing to deal with personal issues.

The Sydney coach added that he had no problem with Hall's criticism of the club decision yesterday. Hall said he didn't think being stood down was the solution.

''Neither of us [Roos or Hall] is probably qualified to determine what's right or wrong for him,'' he said. AAP
