Brisbane push for NBL team

29/08/2008 1:00:00 AM
The Brisbane public may be given the chance to own a new team in the 2009-10 NBL.

With financially troubled owner Eddy Groves handing back the club's licence to the NBL, Brisbane will be without a team in the national competition this season for the first time since 1979.

But there's potential light at the end of the tunnel for Brisbane basketball fans with Queensland Basketball poised to launch a ''Back on Board'' campaign, involving public and corporate backers.

The public would be invited to take out memberships of a new franchise and own a portion of it.

While the proposal is still in its infancy, Queensland Basketball has scheduled a meeting next month to explore the issue further.
