Paceman Mitchell Johnson admits a lack of warm-up matches before a Test series in India is ''not ideal'' and the world champion will have to work extra hard at home.
Cricket Australia is trying to arrange an extra hit-out so the players can acclimatise to Indian conditions and fill the void left by the Champions Trophy being postponed to 2009.
The one-day tournament was to serve as the major preparation for the highly-anticipated Test series, but now the only matches Australia will play before heading to India next month are three one-dayers against minnow Bangladesh.
That series starts tomorrow at Darwin's TIO Stadium, followed by matches on September 3 and 6.
Australia is scheduled to play a four-day match before the first Test in India, but the Indian board is reportedly reluctant to schedule another warm-up fixture because it would mean rearranging its own domestic fixtures.
Johnson had a breakthrough one-day tour of India last year and is expecting a tough Test tour in October, which could be made harder because of a limited build-up.
''It's probably not ideal,'' he said.
''We probably want a few more games before that, but that's the way it is.
''We've got one game before so we'll have to go back to our states and work pretty hard and try to do the best we can there to prepare as well as we can for India.
''It's always hard to prepare for India, which has such different conditions than here, so it is going to be tough.''
Johnson's return of 3-5 from three tidy overs ensured Australia comfortably beat an Australian Institute of Sport XI yesterday in its sole hit-out before playing Bangladesh.
Australia made 177 batting first, thanks to Mike Hussey's 69 and 31 from Cameron White, then bowled the AIS out for 123. AAP
