20/08/2008 1:00:00 AM
Queanbeyan's team of John De Smet, current ACT rep Wade Turner and skip Peter Daly are the winners of the Men's Champion of Club Champion triples tournament, after defeating West Deakin Hellenic for the title at Tuggeranong last Saturday.

The Queanbeyan trio were much too strong for the opposition team comprising Ian Clark, Doug Wilson and skip David Lindbeck. They took the competition out 25 shots to 14.

The winners will receive the Bowls ACT trophy and prizemoney on presentation day next June.

Junior mixed pairs on top

Queanbeyan Bowling Club's good form was also on display last weekend in the ACT junior mixed pairs, with both winners and runner-up teams coming from the club.

Section winners Paige Dowsett and Shane Murton ,and Anastasia O'Donnell and AJ Roberts all represent the Queanbeyan Club, which played host to the competition on Saturday and Sunday.

O'Donnell and Roberts were victorious in the final, taking out the title 18 shots to 17. The match was close during the entire 21 ends, with eventual runners-up Dowsett and Murton leading until the second last end. A single shot on the last end to O'Donnell and Roberts secured victory. O'Donnell and Roberts will be presented with medallions and the Armour/Miller Trophy at the Bowls ACT presentation day next year.

Dates are versatile too

The women's versatile fours competition has had to be deferred from its original dates. The women's match committee is suggesting it be played at Tuggeranong on either September 18 and 19 or October 23 and 24.

Players concerned are invited to notify Bowls ACT by Friday which of these dates suits and, if either pair of dates is suitable, to advise accordingly. Once all responses are received, the match committee will allocate the new date.

Entries for the versatile fours will be accepted by Bowls ACT. The closing date for these entries will be advised to competitors only once the committee has determined the playing dates. All prospective competitors are asked to direct any inquiries they may have to Mick Farr at Bowls ACT.
