Floros' retirement from professional cricket has paved the way for the Canberra junior to return to Tuggeranong alongside his younger brothers Tim and Benji for the 2018-19 season.

It was a shock to many but the 27-year-old concedes his retirement was a year in the making. He stared at his Queensland Bulls contract for days before signing it, and then the tipping point came when he returned to the pre-season sessions he once loved.

He couldn't see himself getting through another one, so he packed his kit bag and wheeled it into the sunset. But Floros couldn't pull up stumps completely.

Floros is still based in Brisbane but will spend three to four days per week in Canberra to play premier cricket with Tuggeranong and relive the days when he played for nothing more than the love of the game.

It is a major boost for the Vikings ahead of their Cricket ACT John Gallop Cup opener against Western District-UC at Jamison Oval on October 6.

"That’s definitely in the works, I’ll be coming down on the weekends to play most of the season for Tuggeranong this year," Floros said.

"That’s pretty much been finalised and it is pretty much ready to go. I’m really excited to get down there, I’ve never played outdoor cricket with Benji and Timmy, who play for Tuggeranong now.

"I’ve never even seen my youngest brother, Benji, actually play outdoor cricket. It’ll be nice to get down there and play a bit of cricket with them.

"I’ve been up here for just over nine years now. To get down and spend a decent amount of time down there, and see the family during this time of year as well, is really nice.

"My uncle [Billy Floros] is the vice-president of the club, and when he got wind of my decision, he pitched it to John Evans, the president. They were all pretty excited and ready to try to make it happen."

Floros has no regrets about walking away from the career thousands of youngsters dream of, admitting other interests were beginning to take pride of place over cricket.

Gone are the days of Floros playing a key role in Australia's under 19 Cricket World Cup triumph in 2010 or domestic one-day grand finals.

After almost 10 years in Queensland, Floros leaves professional cricket with 15 first class matches, 28 one-day caps and 27 Twenty20 games on his resume, with a stint as Queensland captain to boot.

But Floros knew his time was up. The love of the game still burns brightly, which made for a tearful farewell when he broke the news of his departure to his Queensland teammates.

Now Floros will turn his attention to the final couple of years of his business degree with a major in accounting, swapping pre-season training in the sweltering Brisbane heat for textbooks and figures.

"I stared at my contract for a couple of days before I actually signed it coming into this season. It wasn’t my first sign but that was a big flag saying it wasn't really what I wanted to do anymore," Floros said.

"That was my first tipping point. Then I got back to pre-season, I used to love pre-season and all the running and that sort of stuff.

"For the first couple of days I just didn’t enjoy it, and didn’t really see myself getting through another one, I ended up making the decision right there and then.

"It’s probably been coming for about 12 months or so before I actually made the decision. I just wasn't enjoying cricket as much as I used to, and I wasn’t playing it for the right reasons.

"Life moves on, I got married in May and started to see life after cricket. I was ready to take that next step and move on."
