Canberra would become home to a national ice-sports centre and be marketed to the international cycling community as part of a multi-million dollar sporting-facility plan if Labor wins the next election.

ACT Labor will on Sunday announce a $23.3 million plan over four years to upgrade sporting facilities in Canberra as part of its pitch to voters.
As part of the plan, consultation with the Ice Sports Federation will be carried out to determine a location for a new ice rink in South Canberra.
The proposal comes after an ACT government report into indoor-sporting facilities earlier this year recommended building a new facility to take over from the existing ice rink in Phillip.
A new strategy will also be developed with tourism and cycling industries to market Canberra as a cycling destination both in Australia and overseas.
Playing fields for football and cricket would also be built as part of the plan in the new suburb of Throsby, with future scope for tennis facilities.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said more suburban sporting facilities would be built to cater for growing demand.
"These are commitments that will see families in new suburbs have access to great facilities enjoyed by all Canberrans," he said.
"We will work with local communities and sporting groups in the final design and development process."
Design work will also be carried out for playing fields at Stromlo Forest Park, lights will be installed at Calwell Oval, and $1.25 million will be spent on restoring facilities at Kippax.
The Tuggeranong Rowing Club will also get a $200,000 grant for permanent club facilities.
"A new rowing club at Tuggeranong will encourage more Canberrans to use the lake," Mr Barr said.
Grants will also be available to other sporting clubs in the ACT to purchase equipment and storage facilities.
