JOHN BUTLER TRIOFlesh and Blood★★★★
From the outset, this album promises vintage Butler. There is a nice mix of of upbeat and moody tracks, featuring the band's signature acoustic sound, with bluesy guitar riffs and drums. Butler knows what he is good at, and his sixth studio album offers fans what they have come to expect from a perennial of the Australian music scene. Highlights include a sweet duet with Ainslie Wills, and lead single Only One. Pleasingly, Butler has eschewed the enviro-preaching and opted to impart his wisdoms more metaphorically on this album, which earns another big thumbs-up. One for the high-rotation pile.
