Emergency services were called to the popular north Queensland attraction just before 4pm on Sunday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were called to treat a 5-year-old and a 30-year-old male, believed to be a father and a son.
The pair, understood to be Chinese tourists, were in a critical condition and had gone into cardiac arrest.
They had been pulled from the water and were on the beach when paramedics arrived and tried to save them.
They were rushed from the man-made pool in the centre of town to Proserpine Hospital in a critical condition but were unable to be saved.
The lagoon was busy with swimmers on Sunday afternoon, as temperatures hit 35 degrees.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
