But Henry, of which Harry is a derivative, did make it to No. 4 for baby boys' names in the ACT for the year.

Amelia was the most popular girls' name in the ACT in 2018. Meghan was nowhere to be seen.

More boys than girls were also born in the ACT over the year.

Regulatory Services and "Baby Names" Minister Gordon Ramsay said William was a long-time favourite in the ACT.

"Amelia and William have both been popular names in the past, with William being listed in
the number one spot every year between 2013 and 2016. It also made an appearance in the
top 10 back in 1950,” Mr Ramsay said.

“Amelia is also a favourite of Canberrans with the name consistently ranked in the top 10
since 2011."

Noah was the second-most popular boys' name in the ACT for the year.

Ella and Olivia tied for second place in the girls'.

“Looking at some of the most prevalent names in different areas, it was interesting to see
that Oliver was the most popular boys name in Gungahlin while Lucy was the favourite in
the Woden, Weston Creek and Molongolo area,'' Mr Ramsay said.

As of December 10, 5900 births had been registered in the ACT: 2903 baby girls, and
2997 baby boys.

Last year's most popular boys' name, Oliver, came in at No.3 this year.

Charlotte was the most popular girls' name in the ACT last year but only equal 10th this year, with Lucy.

Some uncommon names also appeared in The Canberra Times' birth notices including Sawyer, Frida, Calvin, Adair, Quinn, Violette, Lexa, Nise, Aria and August.

Mr Ramsay said improvements had been made in the past year to make it simpler for
parents to register the birth of their newborn.

“We recently introduced our online birth registration form, saving parents from attending
an Access Canberra Service Centre in person,” Mr Ramsay said.
