A state government IT project will cost taxpayers an extra $800,000 after blowing its budget and dragging on for one year longer than planned.

The Queensland Corrective Services initiative, electronic transfer of court results phase three, was originally expected to cost $550,150 but that figure was revised to $1.35 million.
The IT project began in December 2016 and was originally due for completion in December 2017, but is now expected to be wrapped up by late November 2018.
The project follows recommendations from a Queensland Audit Office report and will enable court results to be automatically uploaded into the QCS offender management system.
The system was designed to be more efficient and significantly reduce the risk of potential errors from manual data entry.
Previously, QCS's systems were not integrated with the police and courts, resulting in people in different departments manually entering the same information.
The need for specialist contractors for the project and the identification of complex technical risks led to delays and a cost blow-out.
During the Crime and Corruption Commission's Taskforce Flaxton hearings it was revealed QCS was a "paper-based organisation" creaking under the weight of outdated, non-computerised systems.
LNP Corrective Services spokesman Trevor Watts said the project's cost blowout was a staggering example of government waste.
"Taxpayers are being slugged an extra $800,000 because Labor can't manage their IT projects," he said.
"The buck stops with Labor Corrective Services Minister Mark Ryan and he needs to explain why this project is late and massively over budget."
A spokesman for Mr Ryan said a review concluded implementing the third phase would be more complex than expected and would require specialist contracted resources.
"The need for these resources led to an increase in the estimated cost," he said.
A further review of the project's delivery in February 2018 identified it would take longer than anticipated to reduce "complex technical risks".
"The project is on track to be delivered under the current published budgeted costs," the spokesman said.
Mr Ryan was on leave.
The QCS IT project blowout was revealed by the state government's ICT dashboard, which was launched by the former Newman government in 2013, following two audits and an inquiry sparked by the Queensland Health payroll debacle.
