Spiegeltent rolls into town for weeks of circus, cabaret and camp

The pop-up performance venue has materialised in Civic Square for three weeks of boundary-pushing performances.

Let's start in the nude. Life: The Show will bring some much-needed full-frontal nudity to the capital through its "bold and immersive celebration of what it means to be alive."

Its troupe, including vocalist Lee Taylor and Brooklyn drummer Attis Clopton, will perform the motions of falling in love, making babies, and eventual death, with a mixture of cabaret, circus and acrobatics. So the three performance styles you think you can do after a few drinks.

To pick up from where Life left off, Séayoncé will bring audiences a sexy slice of the afterlife by conjuring celebrities from the spirit world.

It'll be a cabaret and comedy show by a glitzy séance host who is the remedy to "lonely souls in desperate need of the camp ecstasy" - so that makes most of us.

"The feeling of seeing a show in a Spiegeltent is incomparable. There is an intimate quality that can’t be achieved in a standard venue," Spiegeltent producer Jess Rankin says.

"The artists all adore the magic of playing in a Spiegeltent which results in some incredibly special one-off performances for our audiences."

Indigenous dance stars Djuki Mala will also bring a high-energy exploration of culture to the Spiegeltent with humour, dance, and storytelling.

Other performers due in the pop-up venue include The Bachelor's/Australia's sweetheart Osher Günsberg, who will tell stories from his memoir Back, After the Break, and Axis of Awesome lead singer Jordan Raskopoulos, who will perform her comedy show Entropy and Irony.
