The outage affected energy customers in Ainslie and Dickson, with power being lost just after 1pm but was restored just before 2pm.
An Evoenergy spokeswoman said the power outage was caused by strong winds, leading to power lines clashing together.
The outage affected all of Ainslie shops, with businesses having to turn away customers during the lunchtime rush.
Edgar's Inn owner Willow Condi said many residents had come to the shops after their own homes lost power.
"Everyone's milling around. We're just sitting here in the dark," Ms Condi said.
"There's a few hungry people upset they can't get lunch."
