Mikaela has developed a free app - Indigital Storytelling - which uses augmented reality, to bring alive ancient indigenous stories.
She was announced the winner on Tuesday at a lunch in Sydney attended by the likes of Hollywood actress Freida Pinto and Channel Nine's Sylvia Jeffreys.
Thomas Bouleuc, the international director of Veuve Clicquot, also travelled from Paris to Sydney for the event.
The awards ceremony was held on the 28th floor of the Bloomberg building, overlooking Sydney Harbour.
"It was incredible," Mikaela said.
"I wasn't prepared to be the winner so I was quite shocked. I did feel the blood drain from my face.
"My dad was there so it was so nice to be able to share it with him."
Pinto, who gave a speech before the awards, was apparently very impressed by Mikaela, calling her a deserving and humble winner.
"She told me to enjoy the moment," Mikaela said.
But did she get any champagne? "I got one bottle," she said, with a laugh.
Ever better than that, Mikaela, as part of her prize, will visit the famous champagne house in France.
And she will even have a row in the famous vineyard, named in her honour, along with the other global winners of the award, from 15 different countries across the world.
"I'm just so excited to be part of the alumni of new generation award winners," she said.
And happy birthday to Mikaela who turns 39 on Friday.
"It's been such an incredible week," she said.
