Henderson and McConnell are leading Canberra's charge for mountain bike world championship gold in the elite cross-country events in Cairns on Saturday.
Henderson admits she isn't in the form she was in earlier in the year but she's hoping she can ride the energy of the home crowd and earn a podium finish.
The 25-year-old jokes she comes as part of a package deal with her partner and coach McConnell, and their close relationship is steeling her charge towards a gold medal.
"To push your bodies to the limits that we do, it gets pretty emotional and pretty tough at times," Henderson said.
"It's always awesome to have someone there to have your back and support you when you're doing it tough.
"Dan and I spend almost 24 hours together. We're training buddies and he coaches me. It's pretty much the package and it's quite a privilege.
"We're pretty lucky to be able to do it together and that's what keeps it fun."
McConnell says this will likely be his last world championship event in Australia so he's desperate to make the most of it.
To taste success on home soil alongside his partner would make it one of the sweetest wins of his career.
"It can be good for both of us. We really try and get the most out of it, the best out of each other," McConnell said.
"It's good to have each other in the good times and the bad. I think we work pretty well together and hopefully we can both have a good run here.
"I had a bit of a slower start to the year, just with crashes and injuries. But I think the last month or two I've started to feel much better. I've had a couple of wins and just feel much better out training.
"I haven't quite got the results I would have liked this season but I feel that I'm in pretty good form. I just have to get myself on the start line on Saturday, hopefully put it all out there and hopefully come out with a good result."
The pair both kicked off their world championship campaigns with team relay events but the Australian outfits failed to find success.
