The first phase of the government's Future of Education community conversation started last week with a meeting between Education Minister Yvette Berry, representatives of the Education Directorate, principals and community leaders.

It was revealed on Thursday that community consultation on the future education strategy would take place for the next three months.
In phase two, likely starting in term three, the directorate will outline and review the options and opportunities arising from the consultation.
The third phase will include the development of the fresh education policy, informed by input from the Canberra community.
Ms Berry first announced the Future of Education conversations in February. She said this week the conversation was aimed at finding ways to provide greater equity and quality in the ACT's school system to help improve student outcomes.
"We've got a great system here in the ACT and we should be striving to make sure that every kid, no matter what their background is, has the best chances in life, that everyone is treated with equal value," she said.
Education Directorate strategic policy and reform branch executive Coralie McAlister said the final strategy would bring together existing reforms under one action plan, place enhanced equity at its centre and be tied with improving access to early childhood education.
On Thursday, Ms Berry also announced the people who would guide the Future Education process: St Vincent de Paul Society chief executive John Falzon, ACT Council of Social Service director Susan Helyar, Stronger Smarter Institute founder and chairman Chris Sarra, Melbourne Education Research Institute director John Hattie, Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority deputy chairwoman Cathy Hudson and Education Directorate director-general Natalie Howson.
