In The City Canberra, who had originally financially supported the event, has now taken over organisation from the Braddon Precinct Group.
The Braddon Block Party was originally slated for October 29, 2016, with plans to close parts of Lonsdale and Elouera Streets to make way for a day of food, coffee, music, markets, pop-ups, a parade and street art.
After a major sponsor pulled out in early October, the event was moved to March 4, before being delayed indefinitely on January 31.
In The City Canberra CEO Jane Easthope said the event is still in the works, although they're yet to confirm a date.
"[Braddon Precinct Group] did employ a very good event manager, but it's a very complex event to run because the ambition of the crew that was designing and wanting to deliver this was to close the street," she said.
"And you've got residents, you've got a car wash, and you've got such pressure on parking in Braddon that it was just going to be really very difficult."
Easthope said that the team is in the process of looking at event feasibility, but, with the budget available, closing the street will most likely not be an option.
Instead they are looking for an existing venue that's still in Braddon that could host the event.
"These events are organic. So if you can actually just get one happening, then as time goes by perhaps budgets increase and enthusiasm for closing roads is there and so on," she said.
"But for now we're looking for a venue that doesn't require that."
In The City Canberra have organised a number of events in the inner city, including the World Curry Festival and Christmas in the City markets.
