Matthew Holdway was named the outstanding school leader of the year at the ACT Public Education Awards on Thursday night.

Mr Holdway, Theodore Primary School's principal since 2012, has led the the 352-student P-6 school through a pilot program run out after the Schools for All reforms were put in place.
His citation said "his enthusiasm and strong commitment to teaching has improved learning outcomes for students.
Mr Holdway's philosophy for his school is 'whole child, whole school, whole community' and he believed quality teaching, quality curriculum and quality relationships were integral to building a successful school community."
In one of her first acts as minister for education and early childhood development, Yvette Berry congratulated all nominees and winners on their achievements.
"As the new minister for education, I am excited to get out there and see the excellence occurring in our 87 public schools that I have heard so much about," Ms Berry said.
"It is pleasing to know our students are in such good hands with the teaching, leadership and support they receive.
"ACT school students are consistently leading the nation in educational achievement and many of these outcomes are due to the hard work of our school staff and communities."
Jennifer Macdonald, Andy Wardrop, Heather Wardrop, Christine Hynes, Margaret Rowlands, Wally Hoefel and Juanita Morton were all recognised for 40 years of service to public education.
