ACT Labor president Louise Crossman has been elected for another two years leading the Canberra branch of the party.

Ms Crossman was elected during a vote that concluded on Saturday. Fraser MP Andrew Leigh adviser's Thomas McMahon and lawyer Jennifer Newman were elected to the vice president positions, taking over from Mark Kulasingham and Alistair Waters. Acting branch secretary Matt Byrne said about 620 people voted in the ballot.
"This was the first time that ACT Labor members were able to vote for their local party presidents, this is part of a wider democratisation of the ALP which aims to give members more of a say," he said in a statement on Monday night.
"To have such a large proportion of eligible members participate - about two thirds - shows that the party made the right decision to support these reforms."
Ms Crossman said she was looking forward to "continuing to grow the party and empower ACT Labor members".
"ACT Labor has seen massive membership growth over the last year. Opening up the president position to a branch member election has given us a chance to connect with some of our newest members in a direct and constructive way," she said.
Last month, the party spruiked that its membership reached 1400 people for the first time, passing the number signed up after the dismissal of the Whitlam government.
