1. Shaken, not stirred
Start Mother's Day a little early this year with a cocktail making class at The Highball Express. Let's face it, having to put up with you during your teenage years probably means she deserves a drink or two. The head bartenders will take you step-by-step through three different cocktails, and you'll finish off the class by getting behind the bar and making your own concoction from scratch. Saturday, 4.30pm. $45. Bookings essential at highballexpress.com.au

2. Run for mum
Here's one for the active mothers out there. What better way to kick-start your Sunday morning that with the annual Mother's Day Classic? Choose from a 5km walk, a 5km run or a 10km run around the picturesque Lake Burley Griffin, all while raising money for breast cancer research. Plus, head to the event village following the run to check out the roving performers, get a free massage and check out the kid's zone. Rond Terrace, Lake Burley Griffin. Sunday, 7am. $25-$65. Online registrations close Friday, 11.59pm at mothersdayclassic.com.au.
Meditate like a mum and take part in a Mother's Day yoga class. This one-hour class is suitable for all levels which means even if your mum's a yoga-pro, you don't have to be to spend some quality time with her. Each ticket comes with a complimentary drink from The Juice Hut and a $20 Fyshwick Market voucher. Plus you even have the option to spend a little extra to get your mum some flowers and prove once and for all that you are the best child anyone could hope for. Niche Markets stage, Fyshwick Markets. Sunday, 11am. Tickets start at $10 from eventbrite.com.au.
4. Score a last-minute gift
We get it; you're busy. Sometimes life gets in the way of selecting the perfect gift. So why not include mum in the gift hunt? The Suitcase Rummage is sure to have something to take mum's fancy with vintage wares, bric-a-brac, secondhand clothing, books, jewellery, shoes, records and art up for grabs. NewActon Precinct, Sunday, 11am-3pm. Free.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle, and spend the morning taking part in the annual Mother's Day bird walk at Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary.
