Tuesday was the coldest morning of the year so far in the ACT and Canberra hit 0 degrees at the airport, just before 5.30am on Tuesday, while Tuggeranong was even colder, recording a low of minus 0.6 degrees.
By comparison, Thredbo top station still had the mercury in positive territory, with a low of 2.2 degrees.
The morning's temperatures were slightly colder than the previous coldest morning of the year, which was 0.2 degrees on April 28.
However, spare a thought for those who woke up in Braidwood this morning, where it was an even chillier minus 2.1 degrees, while at Cooma it was minus 2.6.
Large bands of fog blanketed Canberra, however flights in and out of the airport were not affected by the conditions.
While Tuesday was the first day of sub-zero temperatures in the capital this year, even colder conditions are expected in Canberra in coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a low of minus 1 on Saturday and Sunday.
Minimum temperatures in the low single figures are also expected throughout the rest of the week, and there is the chance of showers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
There's also the chance of snow on Mount Ginini this week, with the chance of falls above 1000 metres on Friday.
