It was the third year in a row Wells has won the top award, capping off another dominant season by the striker, in which he kicked 21 goals to also share the golden boot award.

Cooma's Stephen Domenici and Alex Oloriegbe and Tuggeranong United's Mark Shields were the other golden boots recognised at the official dinner.
Domenici finished runner-up in the player of the year voting, coming within one vote of toppling Wells, registering 31 votes to his 32, with Robbie Cattanach, also from Cooma, coming third with 26 votes.
But it was Domenici who won when it counted, kicking the deciding goal for Cooma in the dying minutes of its 2-1 grand-final win over Belconnen last month.
Belconnen lost just one game during the regular season, a performance that earned Steve Forshaw the title of coach of the year, as voted by the coaches on a 3-2-1 system.
Wood finished the season strongly to earn the women's Premier League top gong with 28 points.
On the back of her successful season, Wood went on to trial for Canberra United, earning a place in the squad with the reigning W-League champion.
Runner-up to Wood was former Matildas player Amy Wilson from Belconnen United, who polled 20 votes, with Nicole Sykes, representing Canberra Olympic, rounding out the top-three with 18 votes.
The golden boot in the women's league was shared among Canberra FC teammates Erin Clout and Jennifer Bisset, and Caitlin Munoz (Belconnen United) and Ashleigh Palombi (Woden Valley).
Coach of the year was awarded to Linda Uhlmann from ANU, which finished fifth in the competition. The award capped off Uhlmann's 13-year involvement with the club as a player, coach and committee member.
