Timothy McCarthy, 41, was the victim of an alleged assault in the early hours of Sunday, July 24.
Daniel Byrne, 18, of Franklin, is alleged to have hit Mr McCarthy in the head with his elbow outside the Quick and Go convenience store on Alinga Street about 5.30am.
The blow left Mr McCarthy unconscious and suffering cerebral hemorrhaging. He had emergency surgery to relieve the bleeding and pressure on his brain and was placed in an induced coma.
Mr McCarthy was put on life support and his mother and sister flew from Killarney in Ireland to be by his side.
Prosecutors had raised the possibility of charging the teenager with manslaughter or murder if Mr McCarthy had not survived his injuries.
But ACT Health yesterday confirmed that Mr McCarthy had been stabilised and was recovering from his injuries.
An ACT Health spokeswoman said Mr McCarthy was sitting up in his hospital bed.
It was unclear whether Mr McCarthy had suffered any permanent brain damage.
The alleged assault was captured on the convenience stores CCTV camera and an ACT Government CCTV camera nearby.
Byrne was granted bail on Friday, but was given a night-time curfew and forced to report to police twice a day.
