Police are looking for two young men who ripped sections from a piece of public art in Civic late on Saturday night.

The men, who were captured on closed-circuit television footage, are alleged to have vandalised the On the Staircase sculpture in Petrie Plaza near David Jones about 10.40pm.

A number of little fat men attached to the sculpture were ripped off, but the exact damage bill is still unknown.

The sculpture is worth about $80,000 and has been targeted by vandals in the past.
Both men were wearing jeans and T-shirts with printed motifs on the front. One of the men was also wearing a beanie.
They were seen walking toward the Petrie Plaza merry-go-round after the attack.
