The 65-year-old man, who cannot be named, has pleaded not guilty to charges of committing an act of indecency against a child aged under 16 and committing an act of indecency in the presence of a child aged under 10.
The ACT Supreme Court jury heard closing arguments from the prosecution and defence this morning.
The Crown prosecutor told the court the man put his hands down the young girl's jeans during a game of hide-and-seek in September 2009.
She said the girl's evidence was consistent and she had made very specific assertions about where her step-grandfather had touched her.
But the man's barrister said his client had merely tickled the girl during a game involving both children.
He told the jury members they must acquit his client if they had any reasonable doubt about the Crown case.
Justice Hilary Penfold told the 11-member jury that the case involved two very different accounts and it was not a question of choosing between the two witnesses.
