The ACT Government is announcing this morning that the planned café at the pool will be called Tav's in honour of Mr Taverner.
The cafe will be built at the north-eastern corner of the pool complex on a part of the lawn.
Mr Taverner has worked at the pool for 32 years and managed it for 22 years.
The second generation of his family to manage the Canberra icon, Mr Taverner turns 60 in July and is keen to retire and start a new chapter of his life.
His last day will be on Sunday when an open day will be held from 10am to 4pm, celebrating the decades of friendship with his patrons.
The contract for the new manager is expected to be awarded in June.
