William Patrick Butler, 62, was arrested on Sunday for the second time this month after police caught him repeatedly flouting a court-ordered ban on driving.
He faced the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday charged with driving while disqualified, driving an unregistered, uninsured car and using false number plates. Butler was also charged with possessing cannabis. He did not enter pleas to any of the charges.
He had already been arrested on November 8 after police stopped him in Symonston and ran checks on his licence.
On that occasion Butler was given police bail on strict conditions, including a night-time curfew, and was not allowed to drive or hold the keys to a motor vehicle.
But police conducting random breath tests in Narrabundah on Sunday caught him again and arrested him. The court heard Butler had 22 prior convictions for driving disqualified and had served four months in jail last year after driving offences.
Magistrate Grant Lalor said Butler was in breach of his bail conditions and was likely to be sentenced to a significant term of imprisonment if he was found guilty.
The court heard Butler was also due to face court today.
Mr Lalor refused bail and remanded the man in custody overnight.
