For a man who suggested he would take striking workers "outside and execute them in front of their families", Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson was surprisingly family friendly in Perth.

More than 7000 rev heads, luxury car owners and media personalities spilled their bourbon and cokes when the fireworks cracked to welcome Clarkson and Top Gear co-host James May to the Burswood Dome as they arrived in two souped up Ford and Holden V8's last night.

While the razzle and dazzle of cars ablaze, light shows and animation sequences starring the Stig had the women and children of the crowd in raptures, die hard Top Gear fans were left feeling like they'd purchased a lemon.
Top Gear for blokes who like to tinker under bonnets is what Sex and the City (the series not the movies) is for women.
Top Gear Live on the other hand has all the elements of a testosterone charged night at the Kwinana Motorplex or local drift club, however instead of cold stubbies spectators would most likely be sipping Lady Grey tea.
"It was like Sex and the City but with Two Fat Ladies being in every scene," one punter yelled at me after the Stig performed his final lap of burnouts in a see through car.
I could've misheard him though as my ears were ringing from the loud revving, even louder fireworks and the odd appearance of a police helicopter peppering stunt drivers with bullets.
There were elements of cheekiness when the hosts engaged in a tête-à-tête about the recent controversy surrounding Clarkson's comments about suicide and industrial action which have drawn the ire of the international media.
"It was reported that I made the comments while I was promoting my book, this is not true, I was actually promoting my DVD. It's important to be accurate with these matters," he chuckled.
Clarkson and May were then joined by former Top Gear Australia host Shane Jacobson.
While the typical Aussie vs Pom quips and ribbings about being middle-aged blokes continued throughout the show it culminated in a Holden vs Morris Minor soccer match on four and three wheels which had the crowd cheering either for a crash or goal.
A look into the Stig's Garage was the horsepower equivalent of a Victoria's Secret parade.
The sound of speed dialling bank managers could be heard as the sexiest European models sauntered around the stage courtesy of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes and Aston Martin.
While it was a highlight, it wasn't really anything too different from the Claremont Hotel parking lot on a Friday night.
Top Gear Live is a great introductory show for those not familiar with the TV series and will provide enough rpm for fans of fast cars.
Top Gear Live continues at the Burswood Dome until Saturday.
