1. Digital killed the video star

Did you know that tapes that are not digitised by 2025 will in most cases be lost forever? Before you start making moves to transfer your old home movies to DVD, head to the National Film and Sound Archive for producer and sound engineer Louis Montgomery's talk. He has dug into the NFSA's collection to showcase rare and important film clips that are held on tape. He'll take a moment to celebrate the medium and recognise magnetic tape's importance in a digital world. Friday, 6pm. Tickets are $10 from shop.nfsa.gov.au.
2. The knitty gritty
Get crafting this weekend for Knit in Public Day when local charity knitting group Good Omen Goodeze are inviting the public to join them for a day of woollen fun. Knitters can bring along the project that they are currently working on, or there will be needles and wool available for beginners to take the time to learn the craft all while creating - by either knitting or crocheting - a square for a blanket to be donated to the Canberra Hospital ICU. There will also be French knitting spools and pom pom makers for children to learn with and join in the fun. Westfield Belconnen, Saturday, 10am-3pm.
3. Flower power
What's better than receiving flowers? Learning how to make an Instagram-worthy arrangement yourself. Catch up with some friends or meet some new ones while getting creative and getting taken through the steps of how to make a flower hat box at Nibble and Flourish. Tickets include nibbles, and your choice of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or sparkling wine. Saturday, 10am-11.30am. Tickets are $75 from nibbleandflourish.com.au or Eventbrite.
4. Gin-teresting afternoon

Celebrate World Gin Day with Canberra's very own spirit experts, Underground Spirits. The Canberra spirits brand and maker of small batch gin will join the team at Kokomo's for this special event which will also include free tastings of Underground Spirits award-winning gins. The brother/sister distiller team of Claudia Roughley and Toby Angstmann use a patented cryofiltration process, clean Snowy Mountains water, sustainably grown NSW wheat and native and local botanicals to create truly exquisite gin of premium quality. Kokomo's, Saturday, 3.30-6.30pm.
5. No, we don't need no scrub
Head back to the naughty 90s at Drag Rave: No Scrubs. Miss First Nation winner and YesFest 2018's headliner Felicia Foxx will not only be performing on the night but will judge the 90s Realness Competition, while DJ Raydar will be on deck to play nothing but 90s hits. Reload Bar and Games. Sunday, 8pm-2am. Tickets are $15 at the door.
