The 23-year-old joins the Capitals on a one-year deal after reaching out to the club in search of greater opportunity.
As soon as she popped up on Canberra coach Paul Goriss' radar, he didn't have to turn far for a second opinion on the daughter of two-time WNBL champion Gail Henderson.
The former Sydney Flames rookie played three games with Capitals co-captain Marianna Tolo with Mackay in the Queensland Basketball League earlier this year.
"Whenever Tolo gives somebody the stamp of approval, they're of pretty high quality," Goriss said.
"Once Tolo had played with her in QBL, she came back and gave a really good report on her both as a person and as a player."
So how does she fit into the mould on the court?
"She can really shoot the ball, she'll help us stretch the floor with Kia [Nurse]. We've got both of those two that can play on the wings, either separately or together," Goriss said.
"Our plan is for Alex to play some back-up minutes for Kia. She will help to stretch the floor with Tolo and Kelsey as well.
"The more we can surround those two with shooters, where people can't double team them or trap them [the better].
"She just wants an opportunity come in, work hard, develop her game, and get some minutes.
"That's the kind of person we want, someone that wants to come in and work their backside off to get an opportunity."
Canberra have now set their sights on filling their second import spot, likely to be with a guard.
