Canberra Raiders dining out on golden archer

So much so, Canberra Raiders fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's getting requests to pull out his try-scoring celebration.

But The Canberra Times can reveal he's only borrowing it from former New Zealand Warriors winger Henry Faafili.

Nicoll-Klokstad remembers watching Faafili as a kid and was inspired to do it when he started scoring for the Raiders.

His double in the win over St George Illawarra makes him Canberra's leading try scorer with eight.

The first time he did it - when he scored a brace against Newcastle - he got text messages from family back home asking him about it.

Now his teammates are encouraging him - he wasn't going to pull it out for his second try against the Dragons until they called for it.

"There was this winger that used to play for the Warriors, Henry Faafili," Nicoll-Klokstad said.

"He used to do the bow and arrow and I thought it was pretty cool. I just thought if I score I'll give it a go. That's all.

"He was my favourite player growing up. I had my family messaging and laughing, 'What was I doing?'"

Now he'll hope to bring the love to Canberra Stadium, where the Raiders face Wests Tigers on Saturday in what's shaping as a massive week for the club.

They'll be celebrating the 30^th anniversary of the Green Machine's inaugural premiership - vanquishing the Balmain Tigers in the greatest grand final ever.

Nicoll-Klokstad said they would go into the Tigers clash buoyed by the way they reacted to Nick Cotric's send off.

They dismissed a challenging Dragons team in the final 21 minutes despite being a man short.

"I think it was very important for us ... we've learnt a lot from the losses we've had this year. We're our own worst enemy," Nicoll-Klokstad said.

"I had no idea Nick was off for the whole game ... it got to four minutes [remaining] and I was like, 'This fella's not coming back on, is he sent off?' I thought it was 10 minutes."

Nicoll-Klokstad continues to go from strength to strength and has become one of the Raiders' most important players.

After being starved of opportunity at the Warriors, he's become one of the best custodians in the NRL.

The 23-year-old leads the competition for kick return metres, is third for runs and run metres, and sixth for tackle breaks.

"[Raiders coach Ricky Stuart] challenged me before the game to be consistent," he said.

"At this moment I am quite happy with my game. There's a few things I wanted to work on from last game that I wasn't happy with.

"I thought I was a lot better in those areas and I felt like I just missed a little bit.

"I just want to be the best I can be for my team and those boys around me are helping me do that."
