Police say the detainee, a 17-year-old boy, was receiving medical treatment at Canberra Hospital, before he escaped from the hospital about 2am.
The police search involved the dog squad.
The detainee was found about 5.10am near Parkes Way in Acton and arrested.
The boy is expected to face ACT Children's Court on Monday, charged with escape from arrest or custody.
