Coach Paul Goriss will spend the next two weeks working to finalise contracts for his 10th and 11th players as the club targets back to back titles.
It's understood Mikaela Ruef is one option being considered to add depth to the squad as a back up to all stars Kelsey Griffin and Marianna Tolo.
The Capitals re-signed point guard Abby Cubillo on Thursday, with the 20-year-old set for a bigger role in the absence of Kelly Wilson and Leilani Mitchell.
The Capitals have recruited French star Olivia Epoupa and Maddison Rocci will get more game time, but Kristy Wallace will miss most of the season as she recovers from her second knee reconstruction in two years.
"We're probably looking at her being back on court in January," Goriss said of Wallace.
"That's the rehab plan that's still ongoing. We want to make sure she's ready to go when she's ready and we get the tick of approval.
"We want to give her every opportunity to recover.
"We've got a big spot left to fill and then we need to bring someone in for the time [Wallace] is out. We've identified two players for that."
The Capitals will play pre-season games against a Japanese club side and China 'B' before their season opener against Adelaide on October 13.
Capitals officials are also driving plans for the Australian Opals game against China on September 19, with hopes it will generate interest in basketball before the WNBL season starts.
Goriss is confident Cubillo can take another step up this season after being a development player last year.
"There's going to be more time in that point guard spot," Goriss said. "Abby will continue to grow, she was a huge part of [last season]."
