It took just 24 hours for the Canberra Raiders' preliminary final to sellout, with tickets lasting just minutes when they went on sale to the general public Tuesday morning.
But now they're appearing on scalping websites, like Viagogo and Ticketmaster Resale, for up to five times their original value for the historic clash between the Green Machine and South Sydney at Canberra Stadium on Friday night.
A spot in the NRL grand final is on the line, with the Raiders looking to reach the decider for the first time since 1994.
The NRL said they had measures in place to reduce the number of tickets scalpers could get their greedy little hands on.
But they also wanted fans to avoid purchasing tickets from unknown sources because they could be fake.
"Working with the NRL, Ticketek uses a range of systems and technologies to assist in ensuring tickets for high demand on-sales, including Friday night's preliminary final, are sold to legitimate fans rather than scalpers and unauthorised resellers," an NRL spokesperson said.
"Fans should be reminded that we cannot guarantee the validity of tickets purchased through unauthorised resellers.
"Our supporters are encouraged not to purchase tickets from unauthorised resellers including Viagogo and Ticketmaster Resale."
More than 20,000 tickets were sold to members on Monday, leaving very little for the general public to fight over come Tuesday.
It took less time than it would to boil an egg, for the full-house sign to get put up.
MORE RAIDERS NEWS
Fans then flooded online sites, like Gumtree and Facebook, posting "wanted" ads as they desperately searched for a way to get to the game.
Raiders fan forum, The Greenhouse, posted a message warning against scalpers trying re-sell tickets at a marked-up price on their site.
The Raiders look set to break their own crowd record for Canberra Stadium on Friday.
That mark currently sits with their 2010 semi-final against the Wests Tigers when 26,476 fans crammed in.
But with the ACT government and the NRL boosting capacity for the preliminary final to about 28,000 - by bringing in temporary seating and increasing standing room tickets - that mark is now seriously under threat.
The government is urging everyone to get to the game as early as possible with gates opening at 6pm - almost two hours before kick off.
There will be extra bars and food outlets opening at the same time, while parking is cheaper for anyone who gets there before 6.45pm.
"The interest in this game is nothing short of remarkable," NRL chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo said.
"The match has sold out just over 24 hours after going on sale, which is a fantastic result for the two clubs and for the game.
"We've added some additional standing tickets to the configuration to ensure as many people as possible could attend the game, which will be an incredible spectacle."
