The Canberra Times can reveal the players from the 1989 premiership team have sent personal messages to the current day Canberra Raiders on the eve of the NRL grand final.
It's the final inspiration for the Raiders heroes who are on the verge of ending a 25-year premiership drought.
Mal Meninga. Laurie Daley. Bradley Clyde. Gary Belcher. Steve Walters. Glenn Lazarus.
The words from those Green Machine grand final stars were ringing in their ears as they went to bed on grand final eve.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart played them to his team on Saturday night, just hours before they face the Sydney Roosters at Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday.
The spirit of the '89 premiers have been a driving force for the Green Machine all season as the club celebrates the 30th anniversary of their maiden premiership.
But the current Canberra crop is looking to create their own piece of history and that's what their forefathers are hoping to inspire them to do.
Ex-Raiders prop Steve Jackson, who scored that great match-sealing try 30 years ago, had a simple message.
He's spent the past three decades revelling in that moment, when he stuck a dagger through Balmain hearts with his barnestorming run - carrying virtually the entire Tigers team across the line with him.
Now he's doing his bit to help inspire another match winner.
Whether it's Josh Papalii for another match-winning try. Or Jack Wighton with a freakish effort. Or the insanity of the "Leipana" duo of Joey Leilua and Jordan Rapana.
"I've sent some kind of message, a recording, to the players," Jackson said.
"My message the whole time has been, 'Don't play the game too many times in your own head'.
"Relax as much as you can because for any inexperienced [players] they can have played the game before they even get there if they're not too careful.
"And you're not going to become a faster football or a stronger footballer or a better footballer in one week.
"So you've just got to get your mind right and when the hooter goes your body will just be ready."
And ready they are. Raiders assistant Andrew McFadden said they were ahead of their captains' run on Saturday.
Now it's down to the players performing and taking the moments when they need to.
There will be a sea of lime green in the Sydney Olympic Park stands, after Raiders fans gobbled up tickets en masse.
It's expected to be a sold-out crowd come Sunday, with an estimated 30,000 of the 83,500 seats taken up by the Green Machine.
They'll all be whipped into a feeding frenzy by the NRL grand final debut of the Viking clap - kicked off when Meninga blows the Viking horn.
Meninga, Daley, Alan Tongue and Terry Campese will all be on hand to clap along as well.
"Most definitely [we're ready]. That's all wonderful, but it really comes down to how we execute our plan [Sunday] night," McFadden said.
"We know there's going to be a huge following here. We've had that all year. But it will all come down to the moments that we take."
Lazarus is confident they can take those moments - when the game's there to be won.
He's been inspired by their efforts against Melbourne. Not many teams go down there and beat the Storm, let alone do it twice in one season.
"They're going to have to play well, but they've shown throughout the year that they're capable of beating anybody," Lazarus said.
"Beating Melbourne twice in Melbourne's no easy feat. And just the way they've defended.
"Defence wins big games and if they defend like they did in that Melbourne semi-final they'll go a long way to winning the game."
