Eden Marine High School students are working together to build a mini skate ramp that will be used all as a demo and practice ramp in schools and tournaments all over the Bega Valley, including next week's popular Merimbula Surf Classic.

Sapphire Coast Skate Park Association (SCSPA) president Peter O'Keefe said the students had taken on the build with enthusiasm and dedication reflecting the high interest teenagers in the area have for skate boarding.
With the plans for a new skate park to be built in Eden he added the kids were "beside themselves" and willing to do anything to pitch in.
"There's been a sharp rise of interest in skateboarding and scooters. The numbers have rapidly outgrown the current resources we have here, which is part of the reason the kids were so keen to pitch in and build the ramp," Mr O'Keefe said.
Members of the newly formed SCSPA have been working tirelessly over the last couple of years pushing for skate parks to be built across the Bega Valley shire.
Earlier this year in June, the group received confirmation from council they were to receive $20,000 to put towards skate park design concepts for Eden and Merimbula.

"Skateboarding has become widely recognised as a mainstream sport, it's included in the Olympics. It's only logical kids in the area have better facilities to practice on," Mr O'Keefe said.
"Plans for the Eden Skatepark are well underway and a dedicated sub committee is in the process of being formed to work in conjunction with the Sapphire Coast Skate Park Association."
Eden Mitre10 and Raging Bull Surf were major sponsors of the mini ramp build.
