Parking across the ACT was free for all of Friday morning, after government-run parking meters were reported down and were unable to accept money or issue parking slips.
It's not known what caused the outage.
The outage ended after 1pm.
In a statement posted to its website, Access Canberra urged drivers not to report the outage.
"Drivers must still adhere to the signposted time limits when parking and park safely and legally," an Access Canberra spokeswoman said.
Between January and September this year, Canberrans have paid $15.7 million in parking fees in paid-parking areas across the ACT.
For those looking to get their Christmas shopping done without having to pay for parking fees or run back to the car to put extra hours in the meter, Friday was their best chance.
