NSW Police has referred to the Australian Federal Police its investigation into doctored documents shared by Energy Minister Angus Taylor's office to a journalist.

In a statement, NSW Police confirmed the matter had been referred, but wouldn't give any further detail.
"Following an investigation by the State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad, the matter has been referred to the Australian Federal Police," the statement said.
The Australian Federal Police has been contacted for comment.
The investigation surrounds a doctored document that purported to be a page of the City of Sydney Council's annual report, showing councillors had spent more than $15 million dollars on international and domestic air travel.

The document was used as the basis of a letter from Mr Taylor to Sydney Mayor Clover Moore, chastising the council for unnecessary air travel. It was also leaked to a journalist at News Corp, where the numbers were reported.
But the City of Sydney's annual report on its website has significantly lower figures for the 2017-18 financial year, at $1727.77 for international travel and $4206.32 for domestic.
The matter was referred to NSW Police by Labor last year.
