The house on O'Halloran Crescent in Kambah was allegedly targeted in a shooting before part of the property was set alight.
Fire and rescue crews were called to the scene about 12.30am on Friday.
The fire destroyed the garage of the Kambah property, which had a four-wheel-drive inside at the time.
The fire was extinguished just after 1am, police say.
The blaze is being treated as suspicious, although the cause of the fire is not yet known.
A spokeswoman for the ACT Emergency Services Agency said the investigation into the fire had been handed over to ACT police.
A crime scene was established at the Kambah home.
Bullet holes were then found by police in the front of the house.
Dozens of ACT police officers were at the home for most of Friday morning.
Teams of forensic officers were at the home gathering evidence in bags.
Several police officers were seen looking through multiple stormwater drains in the street and a nearby park.
Taskforce Nemesis, ACT police's organised crime unit, is investigating the incident.
The shooting and suspicious fire comes just days after a shooting incident in the nearby suburb of Gordon.
A man was taken to hospital on Monday night after being shot in the arm in a targeted gang-related attack.
