At the time of writing, there hasn't been a directive from the ACT Government on activities like recreational fishing.

You are allowed to exercise. In fact, I've seen more people out and about walking, running and cycling than ever before.

Things are more definitive in NSW. On Wednesday, NSW Police confirmed that recreational fishing was allowed as it was classed as 'passive exercise.'

So you can fish in NSW provided you abide by the strict new 'social distancing' rules and don't gather in groups of more than two.

Queensland made a similar announcement on Tuesday, allowing people to fish for food.

I'm not sure what this means for Canberra anglers.

Until further notice, my advice would be to apply common sense and definitely abide by the social distancing and public gathering rules.

And don't go on a road trip to the south coast, the Monaro or the snowy mountains.

Those who continue to fish in other states will at least be helping prop up the recreational fishing economy, which is doing it tough.

In Canberra, tackle stores are still trading. They are also online and some are offering contactless delivery and other initiatives to ensure they can still safely provide a service during this pandemic.

Support these local businesses in tough times. We'll definitely need them when we come out the other side.

Fishing-wise, the urban lakes are performing superbly for redfin, golden perch and few Murray cod.

If you happen to be on the coast, there are still massive schools of salmon off the rocks and beaches. The hotspots right now are Bermagui, Narooma and surrounds.
