National Boxing Series event slated for AIS Arena to be postponed

Capital Fight Show promoter Nick Boutzos concedes Fox Sports' National Boxing Series show scheduled for the AIS Arena in June is likely to be rescheduled.

Boutzos is hoping to host an instalment of the series later this year but that will hinge on social distancing rules.

A boxing event will not be held behind closed doors as a crowd is essential to such events for revenue, making for a "strange and frustrating" situation as promoters struggle to set firm plans.

Boutzos is working alongside Dean Lonergan of D&L Events to bring the NBS to Canberra in June, with shows around the country broadcast live on Fox Sports.

On Lonergan's books under headline act Jeff Horn, who is set to meet Tim Tszyu this year, are Jayde Mitchell, Jai Opetaia, Issac Hardman, Liam Wilson and Brock Jarvis.

Two of Lonergan's prospects - some of whom are a handful of fights away from world title shots - will fill the main and co-main event slots.

It leaves three bouts open for Canberrans to force their way onto the televised card, while the remainder will compete before the live show goes to air.

Arsene Fosso could fill one of those slots as he edges towards an ANBF Australian heavyweight title bout with defending champion Faiga Opelu.

Abe Archibald may well have done enough to force his way into a televised bout following his win over fellow Canberran Jorge Kapeen in an instant classic this past February.
