Rule is Newcastle Knight Kalyn Ponga always a threat

He returns from suspension to face the Canberra Raiders at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday, which will be his first game under the post-coronavirus-shutdown rules.

It's seen attacking players able to show their flair, especially off the back of dominant possession.

The NRL has given the referees the ability to call six again for ruck infringements, rather than a penalty, and it's led to more free-flowing football in the first weekend of its introduction.

Ponga will get his first taste against an unbeaten Raiders team that's only points differential off the top of the ladder.

The Raiders are looking to win four straight to start a season for just the fourth time in the club's history.

Raiders winger Jordan Rapana said Ponga was always going to be a threat - regardless of what rules they were playing under.

"He's always a threat mate. He's a talented player," Rapana said.

"Throughout all the games I've noticed the teams with majority more tackle breaks and offloads, second-phase football, they're the teams that are the ones that seem to dominate a bit more, get a bit more momentum."

The 30-year-old felt possession had become even more important, with teams able to win comfortably off the back of it.

South Sydney, Melbourne and Penrith were the only teams that had more possession, but didn't win.

"It doesn't matter who you are up against, whether it's the Knights, Melbourne or Parramatta, the team that's going to hold the ball longer and complete more is going to win. Simple as that," Rapana said.

The Raiders announced a restructuring of their memberships on Monday, with crowds unable to attend matches for the foreseeable future.

Members can choose to donate their money to the club through the Australian Sports Foundation, have their credit rolled over to the 2021 season or apply for credits.

"We encourage our members to look at all three options and pick what suits them," Raiders boss Don Furner told the club's media.

"I want to thank our members for being so patient. We've communicated with them and asked for their patience and they've shown that.

"This is another chance for them to show support to our club."
